Municipality announces sale of 265 sites

In what appears to be another major development on the housing front, the Umsobomvu Municipality has announced its intention to sell a total of 265 sites to community members who do not qualify for RDP housing.

In a statement dated 8 November 2023, the municipality said it was engaging with  the provincial Department of Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) about 170 of the 265 sites.

In the meantime, the municipality has begun to prepare access roads to the recently developed area where 150 sites are located.

As soon as an agreement has been reached with COGHSTA, the following sites will be sold:

Noupoort: 73; town area: 40 Eurekaville: 33; Norvalspont: 20; Colesberg, 172; Ouboks (between Towervallie and the Stadium): 150; Towervallei: 18; town: 4.

The prices of the available sites will be announced after the municipality has concluded its discussions with COGHSTA, and completed the relevant administrative process.

According to the statement, the municipality has set a new target date, namely the first week of December 2023 – presumably for announcing the prices.

·       Like all housing issues, Toverview will keep a close watch on this process in the weeks and months to come.
