MOLWENI... DAGSÊ... GREETINGS... !

ONCE UPON A TIME, (like now and then, from … March 2023), AND PLACE, (like here in a garage in  a bubble in Somerset West), IN THIS PROJECT FOR A MODEL OF RURAL COMMUNICATIONS,  reveals that our Toverview 1 lesson  is that…

At about a year since we began to explore our digital media project, we, and our associated independent projects in facing the question WHAT HAVE WE LEARNT SO FAR? Can best answer, we have learnt that all things are, like all our lives, very PERSONAL as well as being VERY TEAMLIKE . In a word, like UBUNTU.

And this is how we learn, time and again, there is nothing new under the sun except that us human beings are continually facing our and associates’ and others’  traumas and good places in how central are the personal lives, that we all and each are living, here and all around.

In my case our eldest son, Mark, passed away in January this year. Like many of you I was reminded of the trauma of passing . And also at a time last month where more than 50 000 people were buried alive under earthquake rubble in  Turkye and Syria. So It Goes, were the ironical understatement used by American author, …,…, when he wrote other  tragedies in the worlds he explored.

So, it is also an eyeopener to us, right here in Colesberg our example base, to see that a new digital radio media enterprise is featured in our Umsobomvu municipality facebook site, together with some close local and state advertisements.  This is a Colesberg Bulletin arrival.  We wish it well.  The Bulletin seems to fit well in our project for a model and we mean to taste the tracks, feel the spores,  join where we can and can afford, and enjoy the coffee.

Our lesson 1 of the year has taught us how intimately personal is local. It will be tantalizing ahead to feel out variations on thre model of rural communications.

Our lesson 2 is by no means does any one size fit all. We learnt that also on our short travel in on of the Forgottenm Highways ongoing project late last year.

Our lesson 3 is technology is such a massive challenge, athough nothing everty beats Charity Begins At Home where Locakl isd Lekker and we can see face to face, as the good book says.  Here we are saying never mnind the weather, as long as were’;r ttiger,    were off to see this wild west show, together, or at least -m as some say – ‘the show is not yet over until the fat lady sings’.

covering, a vast area of our country, our provinces,  our districts, local government areas, our town and countrysides.

They seem to have professional and vast respources and skilled technology experts, and advertisers – and a potential subscription base for sustainable profits. Maybe they c an give our local journalists and entrepreneurs a chance to eat?

It is uncanny how quickly this project for a model of rural communications has found so prominent a place and claim on our attentions – and maybe a place too in your hearts and minds?  At the end of th days the people, the actual faces, and the real people, will decide. SO IT GOES….. The important thing fpor our project is of course, you be the judge in all those so many rural areas shown in the Colesberg Bulletin map.  Please ket us know , and please Watch these spaces!

 SO IT GOES!?

COLESBERG B ULL;ETIN is poart of a fleet of other community digotal and radio media sites.

When  we launched Toverview a prominent – and controversially delightful – writer friend, Bill Johnson, commented by asking  What local media, is there?  Dear Maeder (July 2022) .  Are there any rural media ? Anyway, good luck with that. Let us know when you are back … Bill.

Our message then had been : Hello and Greetings! This is just to say that, Maeder Osler, at a ripe young age of 81 years – retiring farmer, retired educator, rejuvenating media enthusiast – is initiating a project model on rural media. Here, he respectfully invites his email contacts: friends /associates/ compatriots/ and contacts, to support when and where they can, and when and where they see fit… While we are alive, please expect more, as the project model continues to unfold… With much respect, and regards,                               Maeder Osler.

But now as you see here is a claim of a ‘local digital community newspaper publisher of 76 community newspapers in all 5 provinces in South Africa. To advertise contact 072 757 0514’. That include our example home base town, and wuite a few othrrf areas we know.

So we made contact by email for a start. To follow their invitation,.  – which seems v ert much like the tarditional newspaper forumual to us at this stage – we mean to approiach thse good folkl to find our more. They coulkd even help us in oiur model, for sure.

For thbat we need a guklp or two of fresh country air and the klong deep views of the Karoo.

Watch this space! Watch this mosdel of rural comunications!.
