Jasper Cook has send us this video clip, taken at the Touwswil Market held at the community centre in Touwsranten earlier this year. This is a small village near Hoekwil in the Southern Cape, where Jasper recently lived for a year. (Among others, he says he went to the clinic there, and voted in this hall in the last election.) Maybe it’s a bit outside the Karoo, but the video seems to us to embody something of the special quality and joy of life in some rural areas, including the Karoo. And it does border on the Touws River, on its way down from the Karoo to the sea. The next Touwswil Market will be held on 7 September. See you there …
