A Karoo welcome to the acclaimed storyteller David Muller

COLESBERG.INFO / The Nuwe Hantam ward is set to host a special cultural event as the renowned South African actor and storyteller David Muller brings his captivating one-man shows to the region in early November.

Known professionally as ‘The Merry Scholar,’ Muller is celebrated for his masterful ability to bring classic tales, particularly those of Herman Charles Bosman, to life on stage. The visit, sponsored by Toverview and hosted at the historic Waenhuis at Hanglip farm, offers a unique opportunity for the community to experience the magic of live storytelling. Muller will be performing two of his acclaimed shows, both offered free of charge to the public, with donations warmly welcomed to support the artist and future cultural initiatives.

BLOOD & SILVER

Adapted from Jan Glazewski’s memoir of the same title, ‘Blood and Silver’ is a compelling one-man play directed and designed by Fred Abrahamse, and performed by David Muller. It traces Glazewski’s remarkable life through themes of blood and silver – his struggle with haemophilia and HIV, and his family’s buried heirlooms in war-torn Poland. Seamlessly blending humour and poignancy, ‘Blood and Silver’ explores exile, resilience, and the search for belonging.

Abrahamse’s imaginative staging and Muller’s captivating performance illuminate a story of courage, healing, and gratitude. The real treasure lies in rediscovered family and hope.

  2. Well done to the organiser , Maeder Osler, for this superb idea of bringing theatre to the district.
It obviously took a great deal of planning and subsidising. The people of Colesburg should feel very grateful for this occasion of theatre faraway in the Karoo.
