Once upon a time, and place, in this project for a model of rural communications; we had such vivid sustaining dreams of provisions for journeys, which I remember affectionately as PADKOS (road food).
Of course, although this for sure goes for all places and all times; South Africa has its own choices and mixes, times and places – which are part of many choices one makes. Always knowing, here be many more Roads to go down; not just 2, as that poet wrote.
Here, for example, ARE two to start with; both.

PADKOS, for either, and both, of:
1 THE MOFFAT MISSION (1823) AT KURUMAN. This is a no brainer if you take the trouble, and time to track the standing and complexities of this famous place, and time, on the route of the Forgotten Highway, into and out from, Africa…
2 THE SENEKAL NG MOEDERKERKGEBOU (1896). The historic place of worship, in Senekal – in a heart of a free state of a country – and dear to very many, including Piet Coetzer, and his home communities.
Piet Coetzer, driven by affectionate passions for his country, his language, his horses, our many and diverse people; is RIGHT NOW steering the 6-horses-and-wagon rediscovery of part of the Forbidden Highway: Sutherland to Griquatown; towards Moffat’s mission, to and from and with our mothers, Africa, and beyond… One strikes a rock!
I commented: “…the Senekal church..has that wonderful boundary on the public street of fossil TREES, probably a unique reminder also of our diversities and long deep environments”.

And yes, I was thinking, we all feel the significance of the very very long history of our land, of also its plans to add energy for the futures from the pasts… PADKOS FOR THE FUTURE…?
